Cloud vs dedicated: When does each make sense?

Cloud vs VPS hosting vs dedicated servers: when each makes sense. Compare public cloud, VPS, and bare metal options.

5 min read

Cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure), VPS, and dedicated servers each fit different needs. Picking the right one saves money and hassle.

Public cloud

Good for: elastic scaling, managed services (DB, queue, storage), global footprint. You pay for flexibility and managed ops; cost can grow with usage and hidden fees.

VPS

Good for: predictable workloads, full control, fixed monthly cost. You get root, your choice of OS and stack, and no per-hour surprise bills. Ideal for apps, game servers, and small teams that don’t need 50 AWS services.

Dedicated

Good for: max performance, compliance, or when you’ve outgrown shared resources. You get the whole machine—no noisy neighbors. Higher base cost but predictable and often cheaper per core than cloud at scale.

At Oneraap we offer VPS and dedicated so you can choose. Many customers move from cloud to us for cost and control; we’re happy to help you compare.
